EU pledges €4.8 billion to boost electronics sector

In line with its target that 20% of GDP should come from manufacturing by 2020, the European Commission proposed in July to allocate €4.8 billion (£4.2 billion) to fund research in electronics manufacture and innovation partnerships with the private sector and EU countries.

The funding will be allocated after a competitive process.  Applications are expected in embedded systems, semiconductor equipment and materials supply and the design of complex electronic systems.
